Open Enrollment for Fall 2019

It's only March, but it's time to start thinking about whether preschool is right for your child!  Browse the blog, forward questions to Ms. Harmony, and let's talk about getting your child a spot here!

Half day preschool is not for everyone, but for some parents, it's a great fit.

  • Are you a stay at home mom wishing for more social opportunities for your child?
  • Do you home school, but would love to have two mornings "off" while your child is taught elsewhere?
  • Do you have a new baby that would benefit from more one-on-one time with mom, but your older child needs more attention during this life transition as well?
  • Maybe you would just like to have a few mornings to go shopping or clean house by yourself.
Harmony's House might be a solution for your family.  Ms. Harmony offers a two-day, half-day preschool opportunity for children ages 30 months through five years.  She works from her home with no more than five enrolled children to maximize supervision, individualized learning, and healthy social development.  Use the tabs at the top of this blog page to read more about Ms. Harmony's program and experience.  With only five available spots, it's important to act quickly to contact Ms. Harmony, submit paperwork, and reserve your child's place.

"Baby K's" Promotion

In May, Ms. Harmony announced that she was expecting another little one!  "Baby K" will be getting promoted to BIG sister very soon!  (Well in a few weeks anyway.)  Ms. Harmony is now 32 weeks along and getting excited for the upcoming addition to the family.

October will be the last month in 2018 that Harmony's House will be open due to the new baby girl coming in November.  School is expected to resume in January 2019.

Back to School

Our Fall Session has just begun, and the students are already hard at work!  Today we talked about our big brothers and sisters who will be riding the buses to school.  The school friends each talked about getting bigger, turning five, and riding the bus to kindergarten just like their big sibling.  For now, we are preschool friends and we ride in the car to Harmony's House.  Today we learned how to twist open the glue bottle and give it a little squeeze to see if the glue could come out.  Each student was given different shapes to glue onto their personalized buses.

This bus had many circle wheels, long yellow rectangles, blue and green squares, and orange and yellow triangles.  Naturally the children talked about the shapes they were using and what each shape represents (the doors, windows, seats, etc.)

Some children liked to design buses that looked like the real buses they see on the roads: two wheels on one side, and many rectangle windows.

Our new Friend "S" learned how to stretch rubber bands on the geo boards to make different lines and shapes.  It was so neat when she discovered how it all worked: "Wow!  Look!  I figured out how to do a rectangle!"  It's awesome when you can see that "lightbulb" go off and hear how excited and proud the child is at that moment.

Friend "K" looked for specific shapes when she chose lacing beads to work on.  She counted out four star beads, and every time she used a letter bead she would spontaneously say the letter name and make the sound.  She is really interested in getting ready to read.  :D

Friend "S" also worked with lacing beads.  The goal of her plan was to make the longest string of beads ever!  When she held it up to herself in the end, the string of beads was literally almost as tall as she was!

One of the best parts of preschool is the social interaction between the students.  Here the school friends are working in the Explore Table with dry beans and cooking tools.  They used various measuring cups and spoons, wire whisks, bowls, and cups to "cook" pies, muffins, and hot cocoa.  Yummy!  When some beans spilled on the floor, they each helped each other to pick them up.  It was very impressive to see spontaneous teamwork!

Summer Session

It has been brought to my attention that some working parents might benefit from a summer program for their preschoolers whose regular programs close during the summer.  My family will travel during the summer, but the weeks that we are home, Harmony's House will be open!  I will work on updating the calendar to reflect these dates.  Please let me know if you would be interested in enrolling for just one semester during the year.
